Hi, I'm Beau.

I make games so friends have an easy reason to hang out. I'm a mechanical engineer and futsal player from Western Australia, and Futsal Face-Off is my first game.

How I think

I love solving problems. For every game, I start with the feeling I want players to have, then I design the mechanics that create those feelings, then I playtest it to refine it. Based on the feedback, I problem solve to work out how to make it better.

My first game: Futsal Face-Off

I've played competitive futsal for years, and I wanted to bottle the feeling of it: fast, tactical, and unpredictable, where momentum can turn in a single play. Futsal Face-Off started as a late-night idea to bring that intensity to the table, built so futsal players and non-gamers alike could pick it up easily.

It went through months of playtesting, then got backed on Kickstarter: AU$7,173 pledged against a AU$6,200 goal, from 56 backers.

A bit more about me

I'm part of WA's Game Foundry, a community of local designers who playtest each other's games and give expert feedback. It's where Futsal Face-Off got most of its rules tested before it ever went to Kickstarter, and I'm still there testing new ideas and helping other designers test theirs.

Outside of games, I work full-time as a sustainability consultant, I'm a co-founder of Chittera, an insect protein business, and I'm a bit of a sustainability activist in my spare time. Game design is what I do when I want to build something just for the fun of it.

Futsal Face-Off is out now, and I'm always tinkering with the next game when I get a spare evening.
